About Your Body Electrician

Living with chronic ill health or medically unexplained symptoms can be a lonely, frightening and deeply disorientating experience.

Symptoms that persist can affect every part of life. And alongside the symptoms themselves, there can be the uncertainty of not knowing what is happening, the frustration of not finding answers, and the stress of trying to keep living while carrying all of this.

Over time, that stress can become another load for the system to carry.

Sometimes we know there are things that might help, but don't know where to start. Sometimes we simply don't know what else to explore. And sometimes we have spent so long trying to get answers that we have very little capacity left to work out what comes next.

You don't have to navigate all of this alone.

If you are living with chronic ill health you may recognise some of these questions:

Why am I still struggling when I’ve had tests and treatments but don’t have any clear answers?

Could stress be affecting my symptoms — and if so, what can I actually do about it?

How can I make sense of everything that’s going on and work out what to explore next?

How do I look after myself when I’m caring for someone who is chronically ill?

Two Things Can Make A Difference

1. A trusted ally to help you explore the system

When symptoms are complex, there may be many pieces to consider.

Working in partnership with you, I help you step back and look at the bigger picture — making sense of your experience, considering what might be relevant to explore, and identifying additional avenues that may be worth pursuing. Where appropriate, and if you wish, I can also connect you with reputable and trustworthy professionals who may be able to investigate particular areas further.

2. A safe space to explore and reduce the load

Illness itself can be a significant source of stress. So can uncertainty, changes to our lives, relationships, work, independence and sense of the future.

I provide a safe, paced and supportive space to explore what you are carrying, understand the particular stresses of your illness experience, and develop ways of reducing the load or carrying it differently.

If You're The One Supporting Someone Else...

The impact of chronic illness isn't limited to the person experiencing the symptoms.

If you are caring for, or are in a relationship with, someone living with physical illness, your own system can carry a significant load too. Your needs can easily become secondary as you focus on supporting someone else.

I provide a protected space where the focus is on you — your physical and emotional wellbeing, your capacity, your needs and whatever support feels most important at that time.

Because your system matters too.

So what exactly is a Body Electrician?

I use the term Body Electrician because, like an electrical system, health depends on many systems working together to adapt to our changing needs.

My professional background allows me to bridge mind and body approaches to health, while staying focused on your individual experience of illness and the system as a whole.

Why I Do This Work

Early in my career in the UK's National Health Service, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I was 23 years old.

I spent many years trying to piece my life back together. It was a terrifying and profoundly disorientating experience — particularly when the only advice I received following my diagnosis was to invest in a good wheelchair.

That experience changed the direction of my life.

Since then, as an integrative therapist in private practice, I have spent more than a decade supporting people living with chronic ill health and medically unexplained symptoms.

I have supported clients to advocate for themselves and their health needs, helped them identify reputable specialists when further investigation may be appropriate, and worked alongside them to understand and carry the emotional and stress burden of illness.

This experience is at the heart of my Body Electrician approach.

I have a particular interest in fatigue-related conditions and medically unexplained symptoms, but whatever you are struggling with, I strongly believe that you don't need to navigate it alone.

 A gentle reminder

My work is designed to complement, not replace, medical care. If you’re currently under the care of a doctor, consultant or other healthcare professional, I encourage you to continue that relationship alongside any work we do together.

If you are experiencing an acute medical or mental health crisis, please seek immediate support. You can attend your local emergency department, call the emergency services (999 in the UK / 112 in the EU), or, if you are in emotional distress and need someone to talk to, contact the Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland.
